The tenor bursary scheme is a wonderful opportunity for tenors to join the Chorus without having to pay a subscription fee.
This is a terrific offer – as well as waiving the subscription fee, successful applicants will receive a fee for each concert, as long as they attend at least 50% of rehearsals associated with each concert, including the compulsory rehearsals, ie, the conductor’s piano rehearsal and the on-the-day rehearsal. Bursary holders may also have the opportunity to be engaged as soloists in Chorus self-funded concerts or events, each covered by a formal contract and an extra fee.
The Chorus set up the scheme last year and was pleased to support two young tenors, both students at the University of Sheffield. Both had a wonderful time are planning to continue singing with the Chorus through the coming season, which features some fantastic music, including Lili Boulanger’s Hymne au Soleil, Arvo Part’s Adams Lament and Mendelssohn’s glorious Elijah as well as Christmas carols with Black Dyke Band and a live accompaniment to the film Home Alone on the big screen. See Current Season for more details.
Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm at St Andrew’s Psalter Lane Church; see Rehearsals for further details.
