Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus very much supported our valued partners Sheffield City Trust and the Halle Concert Society, in their efforts to present the 2020-21 International Concert Series of classical concerts at Sheffield City Hall.
Unfortunately much of the 2020-21 season of concerts had to be cancelled, due to the continuing Covid-19 pandemic. However all three partners are working hard to organise concerts for next season.
12th December 2020 : a virtual Christmas carol concert with the Black Dyke Band, including Darius Battiwalla’s new brass arrangement of Resonet in Laudibus, Rutter’s Gaelic Blessing and other carols, recorded from our homes, presented by our new Patron Petroc Trelawny. Available from 12 December onwards. Over 2,500 people had listened to the concert by the end of December.

Following on-line rehearsals and some live rehearsals in small groups of 35, a short concert was organised at St Mark’s Church, Broomhill. Around 70 chorus members sang excerpts from Rachmaninov’s All Night Vespers from socially distanced positions in the body of the church. The audience – restricted to 46 – were seated in the chancel. The evening was a great success – thrilling, moving and emotional. It was wonderful to be able to sing live again.
