Free Sight Reading Workshops

Want to find out what it’s like singing with a big symphonic Chorus, but a bit nervous about whether you’ll cope?

Our next series of workshops will start on Tuesday 12 November 2019. We’re a very friendly choir, and will make everyone very welcome, whatever their level of ability. We’re especially keen to welcome tenors and basses who’s like to try us out – like most choirs we are short of men so we’d welcome you with open arms!

Come along at 6.20pm and get some free tuition, then join us for the rehearsal to see what it’s like. We’re rehearsing for our annual Christmas concerts and for Messiah, so you’ll be singing both a well-known oratorio and Christmas carols, both well-known and new ones, giving you a great introduction to the Chorus and how it works.

To find out more about these workshops, please call Sally Turnbull, our New Members Officer, on 01433 630970 or 07771 578233 or email .

Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus regularly runs free sight reading workshops for both existing and prospective members. These free workshops are:

  • for singers who would like some support with reading music from vocal scores
  • on Tuesdays at our regular rehearsal venue: King Edward VII Upper School, Glossop Road, Sheffield S10 2PW.
  • led by an experienced tutor who will build confidence in reading music and dealing with rhythm and pitch.
  • from 6:20 until 7pm, after which participants can join the main rehearsal, even if they have not yet joined the chorus
