Nigel Gyte (accompanist)

Born and raised in Sheffield, Nigel trained to be a concert pianist at the Northern School of Music and the Royal Manchester College of Music, later gaining his B.A Hons Degree at the Huddersfield School of Music.

He is an experienced and versatile musician who has performed extensively throughout the North of England and the Midlands. Highly sought after as an accompanist, Nigel has also has given concerto performances, and is particularly associated with Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, having performed it many times with orchestras, wind bands and as a piano duet. He has played keyboard for the professional touring production of Blood Brothers, and is often heard alongside Jonathan Gooing as a piano duo.

Although Nigel has always been in demand as a pianist/keyboard player, much of his time has been spent as a musical director in the theatre; his long list of credits includes four South Yorkshire premières: The Scarlet Pimpernel and The Producers (Croft House), Follies and Gypsy (Harlequins).

Nigel recently retired as Director of Music at Rudston Preparatory School in Rotherham, but continues to enjoy the challenging roles of accompanist to the Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus and the Rotherham Choral Society.
